Check this out.... found the link off of blue oval news originally,

An automated web system to find out people who race their cars in SCCA "or any other timed racing event" resulting in an immediate voiding of the warranty :whoa:
Sheesh, thats going a little overboard if you ask me, sounds like Mitsu doesn't have confidence in the vehicles that they build. :dunno:

Actually Will, the correct term would be Warranty Samurais.

theres a discussion every week about this.. and the way more people see it is...
why not? Youre using the car for stuff youre not supposed to be doing. They have their right.

true, it is their right, the owner's manual says that racing voids the warranty, but I have never heard of a company go so far out of their way in order to catch people doing it.

which bring me to my next point...wanna race a car? get something old(er) with no warranty and spend the money on that instead....
but the pure fact that they go to that extent is bs...

Boooooy...I wish I had a mitsu just so I could go do that and take it to court. I'd have a weeee lil bit of fun with that.

"Im sorry sir, we have reason to believe you depressed your accelerator all the way down two weeks ago to merge into traffic on I-80 and we can no longer warrenty your drivetrain because of the abuse it has seen...."
this guy has a good point.....

No, I don't. But I'd still like to take it to court. Those webpages are hearsay...sooo, unless Mitsu was actually there AT THE RACE, yada yada...man, I should be a lawyer, not an AE.

You cant,. the new cmputers have logging shit, too.
Also, it is explicitly written into the warranties. You will go to court and get your ass handed to you. Mitsu has more money then you, a LOT more. And we all know the best lawer wins ;)
As well,. you do NOT want a mitsushitty. Ive had 2, they are fun for a while until shit started breaking.

I wouldn't care. I don't want their warranty anyway.

Yeah, computers are great for logging all sorts of neat info...but hey, guess what...when it comes to taking them to court, they can't testify!!! Sure, the lawyers can bring in all the info they want that is printed off the computer...but there have been dozens of cases that have been thrown out b/c computers aren't people. You have a right to confront your accuser...good luck confronting a computer. Argh...anyway, off topic. No, don't want a Mitsu...just want to argue. :)

A computer isn't an accuser, it is evidence. There's a difference.

No, but a computer isn't a witness...nor can it be used as one. It was the same ordeal with the red light cameras.

what are you talking about? Im just saying they can pull data and see if you raced, it is very obvious with just RPM data. Also...
They wont be relying on just that. They have your registration and theyll get you on the stand, and if you lie well then you should be shot in the fucking head. Im also pretty sure thay con do what they want as far as a warranty. Who reads it thoroughly anyway? You wont win against a corporation, especially a really rich one.

If a car manufacturer is going to advertise a vehile as a performance oriented machine, th an it should be built to withstand its own performance capabilities. Now the issue on mods voiding warranties is case dependant. I remember Chris saying that the GM dealership claimed his aftermarket Z06(GM rims)voided his warranty on his rear, and this is one case that is obviously absurd. As far as the Mitsu Co. is concerned that is downright underhanded and it displays to me right off the bat there is most certainly a quality problem. Mitsu will never see a cent of my hard earned money.

Onboard Diagnostic systems currently in use (OBD-II and OBD-1) do not have data-logging capabilities like you have listed. The amount of space needed to catalog RPM levels like that and also the time and distance covered would be enormous and require GPS uplinks. (not the speed sensors, but any real-time recording would require that.) OBD-2 systems do however have the capability to log throttle position vs. speed and anything else necesary to the engine performance, or anything else that it outside of some set perameters. As far as recording speed vs rpm and time/distance covered or anything that could be used as far as proving someone was racing and not just merging onto the highway, that just does not exist.

My car had a supercharger on it at one point and the warranty was never voided because of it. Its all about wether you get caught or not, and these people have gotten caught. Personally I would be more worried about insurance catching on than warranty companies.
