Yeah,

So all summer I worked 55-60 hours a week on average to build up some money to get a new motor for my car. As of now I have around 4k to work with. This won't build a complete motor from scratch I know.

Problem:
The stock motor in the car has over 150k and low oil pressure so the short block needs to go. I'd also like to get all fresh accesories in there too; starter, water pump ect.

Good stuff:
The tranny and rear have both been rebuilt like 2 years ago so I'm not worried about them taking a crap on me.

The plan:
Stroker motor with a forged rotating assembly, cam, and clean up the stock heads. Followed by adding heads and nitrous later down the line.

I've found these on ebay and am up for suggestions:

With the second one I've found a matching eagle 4340 crank for 550 shipped that combo would make a 383. I'd like to go with more displacement such as the 396 combo if possible but I dont know if it would be worth the extra money.

And in all honesty I can't do this on my own, I'm gonna need help from the club getting the motor in and out of the car or this isn't gonna work. So what do you all think?

I'll be more than happy to help with the build, however I will yield to the Small block experts on the specifics of what to buy. One question, where are you planning on getting the block from ?

A forged crank probably won't be necessary. It will just add weight.

Excuse my ignorance, but I'll assume you have a 4th Gen LT1 car? If so, I know of a good block that is all machined and ready to go. It has about $450 worth of machine work already, and can be bought for about 1/2 that. Contact me if interested... if it's not an LT1 you need - disreguard my ramblings.

it's not a good idea to buy a block already all machined...you don't know which pistons if any they used for the bore (and I'm not talking what over bore they went to, I'm talking about skirt to wall clearances), you don't know what kind of finish honeing they did and for what type of rings (molly? cast? chrome?) etc etc...been there done that...unless that block you know off comes with the pistons and rings then it's an idea...

550 for the crank is an excellent price, matche to those rods and Mahle pistons, that would be a good start.

All that information can be furnished by the owner. When he mentioned the block to me the other day, he muttered something about having pistons for it as well.

lswon, what do you know about the block? bore, type of pistons and was the block machined specifically for those pistons?
