It has the potential to run cooler which on some cars works better. My mustang gets better gas mileage in the winter with a 160 degree thermostat, but most cars will get better gas mileage with a 180 or 195. If you want a better thermostat, Mr. Gasket makes a hi-flow in all temperature ranges that will help cool a lot better. Advance sells them, but you have to get the part number off the Mr. Gasket web site. They are $8.88. Whatever you do, don't buy a Stant thermostat. If you want a stock thermostat, get one from the dealer.

So auto cars have trouble shifting if you run them too cold. And in the summer if you cant turn the fans on sooner the thermostat means dick.

My truck actually runs quicker with a 160 thermostat. Its a 91 350 4 bolt main.
