Remember that Story about the Guy who ran his T/A into a car killing 2 girls, and sed he was doing 50 but was actually goin 114?
Car and driver has an article on that issue this month. its not a black box per se... its the Airbag controller that records this info, info which is needed so the car can decide if it needs to deploy the airbags or not, and if so whether to deploy them in softer or harder mode. and it remembers the last 5 seconds of speed and varios other parameter readings in the event of a crash. it costs a good chunk of money to release this information from the controller to PC. And this technology has recently been under question as violating privacy laws...
This technology has been in GM cars since 1998
Oh and the perpetrator, edwin matos, was NOT driving a T/A, he owned a Grand Am. And hes now in jail for 30 years.. woof.
