Just curious if any of you would share your valve lapping techniques. I'm putting a set of SS valves in a set of LQ4 heads, and am not getting them to seal properly on my workbench. My "seal test" basically consists of filling the port with a fluid, like brake cleaner, or, i've even tried water, but that tends to rust the valve seats, as well as the high surface tension of the water leading to less than accurate results when it comes to sealing. I've used the suction cup hand lapping tools, as well as rigged one up to a firestorm electric drill, but nothing seems to make a "perfect" seal. It's either A) figure this out, or B) take it to More Perf. in Charlotte and pay them to do a 3 angle valve job/lap and install on them. I'd rather do it myself, but not if that means losing several percent on the 'ole leakdown test to do so. Thanks in advance!

take it to the shop and get at least a 3 angle vavle job done....do you have new valve seats in there? usually when you change the valves you change the seats as well to ensure proper performance.

More Performance has made a good name for themselvs so i would trust them. What are you doing to your LS1 to use LQ4? are we boosting it?

Yep, going SC'ed. I prefer turbos, but it's such a clusterfuck to turbo a Y-body, i don't want to mess with it. Going with the A&A corvette P1SC kit, and the 8 psi pulley. Anyway, the LQ4 heads are new, so, I can't really see why they'd need new seats, and also, i'm pretty sure these heads/all gen III heads come with a 3 angle valve job, but, regardless, i think i'll be dropping by More Perf. soon and let them do their thing. I also want to remove the rocker stud bosses in the intake ports before I install them. Gotta be worth another 20 or 30hp, those freaking bosses are huge! Thanks for the replies guys.
