About 4 weeks ago, my car threw a code and I took it to my sister's boyfriend (who is an Audi mech). He hooked it up to the scanner they had, and it said my IAT sensor was reading high voltage. So into the engine we go a-diving, pull the sensor, and find one of the wires has come out of its connector. To those unfamiliar with the sensor: the resist-thingy sticks into the air flow path to measure temperature. A gray connector is attached to the resist-thingy, and the gray connector has two wires running through it. It was a pain to re-hook-up. Apparently the wire had just been completely severed, possibly from engine movement because of how tightly stretched that particular wire bundle is. Anyways, he re-wraps the wire to the connector, tapes it, and the code disappears. Great.
So three days ago, my car throws another code. I have an inkling its the same thing, so I take it to Autozone to have them read it. While the mech guy hooks up the scanner, I go under the hood and look at the IAT sensor. Before he can even say it, I already knew what was wrong. The damn wire had been severed, CLEANLY, again. Its bizzarre. I didn't have the tools on me for wiring and crap, so I went to the Chevy dealer on Nova. They wanted to charge me $30 for the connector! No way that was happening. I ended up sitting in the parking lot and jerry-rigging the wire again. It looked like it would hold, but I'm not sure.
This stupid wire is killing my A/F ratio, giving me horrendous gas mileage. Anyone have any ideas? I'll have the car out there tonight for the cruise, so maybe one of you can look at it then.
