Buy a MACH 1!!!!!

If all goes as planned, by the end of next week I should be sporting a new Azure Blue Mach 1 (and Brad will no longer be BlownMerc). I'm taking a big hit on what I owe on the GT, but I figure, what the heck...take it now or take it later.

After tax/tag/title and being upside down $5k, I'll get the Mach for $27,569.

And for those that don't want to click the link....

"It is not basically an 01 Cobra motor. The whole thing has been redesigned. It has 03 heads, Lincoln navigator exhaust cams, more aggressive computer and a 10.1:1 compression ratio. Newly designed exhaust manifolds, etc.....

The suspension springs are more balanced and it comes with Tokico (SP?) shocks and struts from the factory. The shaker is functional and is said to produce 1 lbs of boost at 80 MPH but have not confirmed. The gearing is 3.55 in the rear and the stock T-3650 is geared perfect for the car.

The interior is upgraded and they come with the 13" Cobra brakes. A little more aggressive brake pad that is one the 03 Cobra as well.

They come with bolt in sub frame connectors that are a POS, but do work somewhat. Larger front and rear sway bars and a ton of torq. With all my 99 Cobra mods I made like 300 hp and 300 lb of Tq. Bone stock my Mach 1 dynoed 275.5 and 298.5, so the engine is much different. They also have really nice seats that hold you in and the bullet pedals to help with hell and toe if the driver knows how. "

The Mach 1 is actually closer to an 03' Cobra Motor than an 01'. It just doesn't have the blower. When MM&FF/GM High Tech Perf tested a Camaro SS vs. the Mach 1 at the strip, the Mach 1 came out ahead. (That's a test on the same day at the same track with the same driver).

Hey man, at NMRA in bradenton, there were two Mach 1's in Factory stock with bassani exhaust, a chip, 4.30 gears and drag radials running 12.70s thats friggin flyin man.

So Brad will be buying your stang ????

Why don't u go all the way and get an 03 Cobra. U r only few grands away from it. Plus why not consider consider an SS/TA or a used Vett?
Thats a little bit more performace and extra power to the wheels.

Ponyperformance6
09-14-2003, 1:55 PM
well the Mach 1 is new for one, more rare than the 03 Cobra and cheaper both in price and definately in insurance. Thats easy.

You think the Mach1 will be cheaper on Insurance than a Cobra....why would you say that?

They will be in the same tier.value will be all thatseperates them in premiums.Plus that Cobra will put a beatin on the Mach1.

O won't even get on the SS and Mach1 comment.... :blah:

Ed I thought that from the very beginning. I'd put 5 bucks in that pot. who else could know so little about mustangs and actually own one?

Mustangs must wieght alot less than Camaro than with the Mach 1 beating the SS because I have NEVER EVER EVER seen a Mach 1 put within even 25 HP at the RW's as a Fbody. Comparing highest stock dynoed stang to highest stoch dynoed camaro. I have the article handy of them back in 1999(not any 02 motors) running 12.89 with a BONE stock 99 Z28. and then recently running 12.96 with a bone stock 02 SS in the dead heat. and then go back and put down 321 RWHP bone stock. thats almost 50 more RWHP than that guy from the mustang site put down. so then how did the Mach I beat the camaro? just not enough MOTORVATION there!

Also, dont get me wrong the Mach I is probably the best( besides the 93 cobra's) looking mustang in the past 25 years. they sounds bad ass and are cheap to build up! who could ask for more?!!!! ME!!!

Well......Remember kurt says it's faster so you better leave it alone!!!!

Hell it might have a S/C sittin in the trunk or something like that...

Compare modded to modded and stock to stock...N/A stang to a N/A ls-1.WE all know the outcome.

Hell Bill Plummer's 97 T/A only runs mild bolt-on's zero power adders and runs 12.20's.It's a friggin LT-1.

I am quoting a source. The day of testing, they both ran a 13.2 with the Mach 1 running a snidge less than the SS. I am not saying one is faster than another, I am saying that an unbiased source tested both cars on a particular occasion and one car came out on top.

As far as the weight goes, Sebastian's fully loaded 00' GT tipped the scales at 3150 lbs. Eddie's fully loaded 00' TA weighed in at 3620. That's almost 500 lbs. That's a lot of weight advantage. I think I would prefer a Fox 5 chasis because of weight. Keep in mind that I bought my car 4 years ago, and a new stang was simply out of my price range. I think I will just weight until I can afford an 05' stang now.

didnt know stangs were that light. how much did the late 80's early 90's fox bodies weight?

Anonymous
09-14-2003, 7:54 PM
Stock LS1 weigh 3400LB thats only 250Lb difference than the GT which I don't think it weighs 3150 anyways. My Cobra weighs 3233LB on a very acurate scale. Now, I've never seen that TA but I bet u that it has after market wheels, exhaust, and suspension on it, which makes up for a lot of the weight. A stock f-body makes about 75hp to wheels more than a stock GT so I guess its ok to have a little bit more weight.

HORSEpower
09-14-2003, 8:56 PM
Those mods don't add weight. When you put a new exhaust system on, you take an old one off.

Kurt

Oh yeah they do.......I've been reading the threads and I heard that Eddie's TA got some work done to it. Wheels that hold bigger tires are hevier simply coz they are bigger. Also the tires are bigger thus heavier........headers are heavier than manifold..........aftermarket suspension components are also hevier no question about that.
I also forgot to mention that TAs are a little heavier than the SS anyways coz of the ground effects and the big wing on the back, however, if u put any SS on a decent scale I can asure u that it wont be more than 3400lb and change. U can look at it from another side though..........if u take a stock GT and stock Z28/TA(not even an SS or WS6) the power difference is like I said about 75hp to the wheels. Compare that to the weight difference u'll find that much power well makes up for the difference weight.

Why not drag test both bone stock on slicks.........500 Bucks says the SS blows it's rear end guts out all over the track while the Mach turns a high 12.

Will- the run you are reffering to earlier was with exhaust, a tall gear, and a taped up ram air scoop.

Insurance was a bitch for the Mach.....I looked into it and it was going to run nearly 1K every 6 mos. with a clean driving record. I am scared to know what a cobra would run.........sheesh!
